Frequently asked
The questions we hear most often.
If your question isn't here, please write to us. We answer every message ourselves.
Contact our team →What is the first session like?+
Your first session is 60 minutes. Your therapist will ask about what's bringing you in, your history, and what you're hoping for. You'll do most of the talking, but at a pace that feels manageable. By the end, you'll have a sense of how the work will unfold.
How often does therapy meet?+
Most clients begin with weekly sessions. Weekly meetings create the consistency that real therapeutic work depends on. After the initial period, some clients move to biweekly — always a decision made together.
Is everything I share confidential?+
Yes. What you share in session is held in strict confidence, with the narrow legal exceptions (imminent risk of harm to self or others, suspected abuse of a child or vulnerable adult) we'll review on day one. Your records are stored on a HIPAA-compliant system.
Do you offer telehealth or in-person sessions?+
Both. In-person sessions take place at our SoHo office in New York City. Telehealth is available via a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform throughout NY, NJ, and CT. Many clients do a mix of both.
Do you accept insurance?+
We are an out-of-network practice. We provide monthly superbills for reimbursement and can help you verify your out-of-network mental health benefits before you begin.
How will I know if therapy — or this practice — is the right fit?+
By the end of the first few sessions, you should feel met, understood, and like the work is going somewhere — even if it's uncomfortable. If it doesn't feel right, we'll talk about it openly. The goal is for you to be in the right care, even if that's not ours.
What if I've never been to therapy before?+
Most of our new clients haven't. Your therapist will go at your pace, explain what's happening, and make space for your questions. Not knowing what to say is one of the most common — and most welcome — ways to begin.
Do you prescribe medication?+
Our therapists do not prescribe. When medication consultation may be helpful, you can work with our consulting psychiatrist, who coordinates closely with your therapist.
